Job Description Job Title: Assistant Chief Design Engineer Working Pattern: 37 Hours Days Working location: Derby/ Hybrid An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join the PWR1&2 Chief Engineering Team. This role will primarily be working within the Chief Design Engineering Team reporting directly to the PWR1&2 Chief Design Engineer (CDE). As a Design Engineer within this role and team it will be your responsibility to support the Chief Design Engineer and Chief Engineer by ensuring appropriate technical solutions and product safety are delivered through effective strategies and policies, and to ensure that appropriate safety and engineering governance is applied across the PWR1 and PWR2 scope. What you will be doing The Assistant to CDE PWR1&2 is responsible for the governance and assurance of component/assembly/systems designs and associated through life justification that meet their requirements and product attributes, ie life, cost availability and safety margins. The Assistant to CDE PWR1&2 shall create solutions and support justifications that are robust against variation, taking account the full life cycle (concept to disposal). Your day-to-day responsibilities within the role will cover: Supporting delivery of Strategic Aims within the PWR1&2 Chief Engineering Team Supporting Product Safety, Quality and Improvement (SARs, Red Tops, QI’s etc.) by attending meetings, providing relevant process support, and reviewing closure material to ensure product safety is maintained Take ownership of multiple work packages within the Chief Engineering Team and communicating with all levels of Management where required Being an advocate for continuous improvement and a point of contact for the PWR1&2 Chief Engineering Team Who we’re looking for: At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. The Assistant to CDE PWR1&2 shall exhibit strong technical knowledge in design methodologies and have an understanding of and ability to integrate cross-discipline engineering concepts which include manufacturing engineering, service engineering, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, Stress analysis both static and dynamic, fracture and fatigue assessment, mechanical technology, cost engineering, product definition, Electrical and Nuclear engineering, etc. Be a good communicator, able to engage multiple functions at all levels of Management Be qualified in an engineering discipline Demonstrate good experience of working & delivering in cross functional teams.
