Job Title: Test and Development Engineer
About the Role:
* Conceive, develop, and maintain product qualification and acceptance test programmes, including new product development.
* Diagnose problems and provide recommendations to the Product Design Team to overcome compliance and acceptance issues.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
* Create and oversee test programmes.
* Provide ongoing technical support for test programmes.
* Identify time constraints within test programmes and use initiative to mitigate accordingly.
* Monitor and chase progress, providing regular status updates to stakeholders and line managers in a timely manner.
* Interpret technical requirements and test methods defined by national and professional bodies standards and specifications.
* Create test specifications that clearly define test requirements for internal and external test facilities.
* Design test jigs, fixtures, and custom test equipment to enable products to interface with test equipment.
* Assist with interpreting test requirements/specifications, test failures, ongoing testing activity, and general issues requiring Engineering guidance.
* Identify and liaise with external test facilities when internal facilities do not meet test specification requirements.
* Scrutinize test setups at internal and external lab facilities, approving setups prior to test commencement to ensure correct implementation of test specifications.
* Record test results in a logical and analytical manner.
* Analyze test results and compile findings (and recommendations) in technical reports for internal and external customers.
* Maintain knowledge of national and professional bodies standards, incorporating changes into test programmes as required.
* Stay up-to-date with new technology, identifying opportunities for improving current test lab equipment, software, or methods.
* Work within strict procedures to ensure continued 'test facility accreditation' validity.
* Maintain systematic approaches and good housekeeping during technical document storage and use.
* Apply analytical techniques, including risk-based testing and desktop design techniques where appropriate.
* Use exploratory testing techniques and tools to support testing services across product development.
* Create equipment operating procedures to maximize successful test results.
Projects:
Process development projects from inception through test report handover phase, including preparing test plans, methods, specifications, tenders, and material requirements. Monitor progress, deal with stakeholders, and collaborate with the Test and Development Team Lead.
Design & Risk:
* Provide consultation during product conception, design, and initial product specifications.
* Identify and mitigate technological risks throughout the design process, and make post-test recommendations for solving non-compliance issues.
* Support the Product Management and Quality Assurance teams with complex customer enquiries and quality-related activities.
* Resolve technical challenges with existing designs and support portfolio sustaining activities.
General:
* Escalate and articulate critical risks to line managers if required.
* Work within a strong multifunctional team environment.
* Maintain knowledge of the developing marketplace and stay abreast of new trends and innovations.
* Ensure compliance with procedural and documentation requirements.
* Provide expertise for resolving technical problems.

About You:
* Clear communication, both verbal and written, is essential, with a high level of proficiency in English language (written).

* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 10+ years related engineering experience.
* Practical experience in one or more business areas, such as defence and aerospace, mass transportation, medical, industrial, alternative energy, or automotive.
* Experience in a highly regulated technical role with the ability to interpret and transpose complex standards and specifications.
* Thorough understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles.
* Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet).
* Strong project management skills.
