Undertaking a range of duties to support the Client, you will work closely with other members of the team in providing the highest standards of health care.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, backed by previous health care experience (preferred), however full training will be given to those with the right approach and attitude. You must be kind, calm, patient and confident in your abilities. Able to work on child led activities and treat the client with care, patience, empathy, and kindness at all times.
The post requires that you work independently to a very great extent. The post therefore requires that you work and conduct yourself in a manner that is acceptable to the employer. Reliability, integrity and complete trustworthiness are essential attributes in this post.
The client is fully dependent on carers 24/7, needs maximum assistance of 2 people at all times and requires full personal care. As such she would need a female support worker to protect her dignity. She is extremely medically complex, she has epilepsy, a severe acquired brain injury so therefore has the cognition of a baby with no means of communication. She also has a gastronomy for medication mainly.
As well as full personal care, your day will consist of engaging with her in small child led activities, giving her full support during play and sensory activities, i.e, painting Disney pictures, baking, therapy input, with regular movement breaks in her slings in the hoist, sensory and calming activities such as music and sensory lights when she tires. The goal is that she is happy at all times, has fun, and when tired being supported and being able to relax.
You will drive her electric van to take her out for social experiences. It is important that you can drive and have access to a car as the client will be moving to a semi-rural area.
She lives in rented adapted accommodation in the Garstang area and has a small team of carers. The property is shared by her family.
Hours are 36 hours per week at £15 per hour depending on experience, (£28k per annum)
Hours are as follows:
9am – 7pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,
9am - 3pm Thursday.
There is the option for extra hours on parents’ request. i.e currently parents go away for 2 nights every 2 months on a Monday and Tuesday night, so sleep ins will be available as an optional extra.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
•To establish and maintain a trusting, therapeutic, working relationship with client, family & case manager
•Playing with the client like a young child, having fun.
•To support the client in line with the Care Plan guidelines
•To promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
•To promote effective communication with all parties.
•To contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.
•To liaise with other agencies when required
•To complete daily records as advised including; time sheets, daily records, epilepsy chart, bowel chart, med chart, food chart, care plan summary and critical incidents, petty cash etc
•To follow risk assessments.
•To attend supervisions, team meetings and other meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer
•To attend training sessions as arranged
•Therapeutic intervention – To carry out therapy practise sessions as advised by treating professionals.
•To assist with virtual teaching for 2 hours every afternoon. This involves following the direction of her tutor and preparation of all activities.
•Activities, hobbies, sports & interests. Religious/Cultural beliefs – Client is a Christian so its essential you respect her beliefs and are happy with Christian music being played. You do not have to be religious, or if you are it doesn’t matter what your faith may be, you just need to respect her beliefs.
