Applications are invited for a Research Associate post in the Cardiff University School of Computer Science & Informatics, to work on the EPSRC Open Fellowship project ReStoRe (Reasoning about Structured Story Representations), which is focused on story-level language understanding. The overall aim of this project is to develop methods for inferring graph-structured representations of stories. For this post, the specific focus will be on developing commonsense reasoning strategies to fill the gap between what is explicitly stated in a story and what a human reader would infer by “reading between the lines”. You will work closely with Steven Schockaert. You will possess or be near the completion of a PhD in Computer Science or a related area or have relevant industrial experience. The position is full-time (35 hours per week), available from 1st November 2024 and is fixed term for 30 months. The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6 scale, currently £40,247 - £45,163 per annum.
