Woking Borough Council has embarked on a wide-ranging Improvement and Recovery Programme to ensure that we are able to deliver the best possible outcomes for our residents. As part of this change, one of our top priorities is to ensure that the Council achieves best value and excellent levels of service from its contracts which span a diverse range of suppliers. To achieve this, we are looking for a motivated professional to join our newly created Commerical Team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape procurement and contract management activities across the Council and the successful candidate will play a big part in delivering savings, efficiencies, and process improvements. In your role as Commercial and Procurement Officer, you will provide procurement and contract management guidance and advice to all areas of the Council, supporting commissioning colleagues to successfully undertake procurement projects. You will have an excellent work ethic, be organised and proactive, and able to support multiple projects at any given time. Tasks will include research and data collection to support contract reviews, supplier negotiations, and the continuous improvement and development of procurement related processes. The postholder will be responsible for monitoring, updating, and reporting procurement and contract information to a high level of detail and accuracy. The job will require arranging and participating in meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills will be needed to support colleagues across the Council and resolve any contract issues should they arise. A key focus of the role will be to support the Council by ensuring all elements of the procurement lifecycle are followed, from the completion of initiation documents to supporting the planning of market engagement events, the collation of tender documents, and the coordination of tender evaluation exercises to meet compliance requirements. Planning ahead through the development and management of a robust procurement pipeline, alongside the management of the Council’s Contract Register will be a key component of the role. In this role no two days will be the same and each day will offer a chance to develop your experience and skills which will help shape the future of Woking. To join us, you must have previous commercial or procurement experience in the public sector and have a minimum of CIPS Level 4 or equivalent, ideally working to Level 5 or above.
