The Assistant Head Teaching and Learning is a key role at Brighton College Vietnam. The role involves working closely with Heads of Department and subject teachers to ensure the highest pedagogical standards are maintained and the best possible learning culture is developed.
This role offers significant scope for innovation and leadership in education and affords the autonomy to innovate and shape College policies related to teaching and learning. There is a need for the post-holder to be able to work autonomously and collaboratively with members of the College community to shape and develop an agenda for teaching and learning at BCVN.
The successful applicant will be proactive, keep colleagues up-to-date on the latest educational issues as well as leading on all aspects of teacher professional development and review.
The successful post-holder will be innovative, pro-active and have the confidence and capability to develop the integration of digital technologies (Microsoft suite, AI and other technology) within the classroom. They will play a key role in delivering dynamic, excellent quality teaching and learning across the College. They will also be a credible sounding-board for Heads of Department and teaching colleagues and be focused on ensuring the highest quality pupil experience in every classroom.
The role operates across the Whole College (Senior and Prep School) and the post-holder should be willing and able to develop relationships and carry out the duties of the role across both schools.
A preference will be given for candidates who can teach Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics.

Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom-based Practice
* Develop, embed and review common standards for pedagogy, digital learning, marking and homework.
* Develop structures to support colleagues at different stages of their educational career continue to access professional development opportunities tailored to theirs and the College’s priorities.
* Embed digital learning across the College, including supporting teachers to innovate and experiment with different software.
* Support HoDs to develop innovative academic competitions and teaching ‘beyond-the-classroom’.
Monitoring and Review
* Responsible for organising whole school INSET, including leading on elements relevant to teaching and learning.
* Create formal and informal structures for mentoring and coaching.
* Work with senior leadership teams to ensure all aspects of appraisal and review are conducted in a meaningful and timely manner. Play an active role in leading the Appraisal and Review process.
* Ensure the CPD process is linked to individual, department and school priorities.
* Develop workshops, articles and social media that ensures a strong awareness of CPD in BCVN and this is communicated to parents and the wider community.
* Work closely with BCI and other Brighton College schools to develop and share best practice.
* Play a key role in observing lessons, lead the onboarding of new teaching colleagues and provide high-quality feedback on lessons.
* Create a culture that emphasises the joy and vitality of CPD and teaching and learning.
* Support and empower middle leaders to establish high-quality learning and teaching in departments and with performance management processes.
* Ensure there is consistency in teaching and learning approaches in every classroom that support pupils making progress to the IB and higher education.
* Provide opportunities for varied CPD (conferences, articles, workshops, reading groups, visiting speakers).
* Support colleagues through the PGCE/ ECT processes when needed.
Admissions
* Work closely with Admissions, Marketing and Academic Admin to ensure high quality teaching is promoted to prospective and current parents through the College newsletter and social media.
* Regularly ensure school policies pertaining to teaching and learning (marking, homework, staff professional review, digital learning) are updated regularly.
Pupil Support and Enrichment
* Develop and run the BCVN Scholars’ Programme (Senior School) and provide opportunities for beyond the classroom enrichment that provides genuine academic extension opportunities.

* Demonstrate commitment to personal development and an excellent understanding of new approaches to teaching and learning.
* A strong understanding of coaching as a way of improving practice.
* Experience of delivering high-quality CPD.
* Strong track record and credibility amongst colleagues as a leading teacher.
* Experience and ability to ensure high quality teaching and learning takes place within and ideally across departments.
* An ability to build strong and respectful relationships.
* Experience as a middle leader.
* Experience of the IBDP (desirable).
* Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills.
