Electronics Design Engineer
Location: Telford, Shropshire, United Kingdom
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 (dependent on experience)
We are seeking an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our innovative team. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for creating robust, cost-effective electronic designs and bringing products from conception to volume manufacture. You will be working in a clean, air-conditioned environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities including PADS Schematic and PCB layout software, a fully equipped laboratory, PCB prototyping equipment, and in-house 3D printing and surface mount production facilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop new products, as well as maintain and upgrade existing ones.
* Produce practical, robust, and cost-effective electronic designs with detailed documentation.
* Lead schematic, PCB layout, mechanical, and firmware design processes.
* Specify microcontrollers for embedded systems and program in C (preferably STM32).
* Hand-build and test prototype boards, directing junior engineers as needed.
* Ensure designs are fully tested and validated to specification before manufacturing.
* Test and report for compliance with UKCA & CE standards.
* Create production test solutions and lead Design for Manufacture (DFM).
* Support New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
* Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers to source cost-effective technology.
* Mentor junior engineers to foster their development.
* Provide engineering support to other business areas as required.
Qualifications
* Minimum 3+ years in a design environment.
* Degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
* Experience in design for manufacture environments.
* Expertise in analogue and digital circuit design, PCB layout, and embedded systems.
* Proficiency in C programming (STM32 experience preferred).
* Practical experience in hand-building and debugging prototype circuits.
Desirable Skills
* Programming in VB/VBA and Python.
* Experience with SMPS, LED lighting/drivers, battery charging, and EMC.
