Consultant Ophthalmologist– Special interest in Oculoplastic
This post is to support our large and specialist Oculoplastic unit based here at Northampton General Hospital. The successful candidate would be expected to provide a comprehensive Ophthalmic service at Northampton General Hospital and support the provision of an effective county-wide service. The post holder will also help lead and develop this service as well as being an active member of the wider Ophthalmology team.
The post will ideally suit a forward-thinking individual with the desire to further their career in ophthalmology. A desire to participate in research and clinical audit is essential.
It is essential that the post-holder should hold the FRCOphth or an equivalent qualification and be on the GMC specialist register or will obtain a relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview.

Main duties of the job
1. Provide an Oculoplastic service within Ophthalmology while also being capable of undertaking general ophthalmology service provision.
2. Proficiency in cataract surgery and a commitment to training is essential.
3. On-call requirements are 24/7, primarily through phone/text/email, usually only during office hours.
4. Responsibility for the patients in care and for the proper functioning of the department.
5. Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of Ophthalmic Trainees.
6. Contribute to the teaching and training of nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
7. Regularly attend and participate in departmental educational meetings.
8. Active role in the clinical audit programme and take part in regional and national audits.
9. Report all critical incidents and attend departmental audit and clinical governance meetings.
10. Proven commitment to service development.
11. Generate revenue for the Trust and department through innovative working practices.
