Job Description
What your new role will entail;
AECOM is looking for an experienced Associate Director Water Scientist / Hydrologist to join our growing Water Environment team. This is a multi-disciplinary team with specialists in geomorphology, hydrology, hydro-ecology, water quality and hydrogeology, comprising 45 surface water specialists and a further 25 hydrogeologists. We work for clients from across the public and private sectors, including the Environment Agency, Natural England, National Highways, Water Companies, NRW, River Trusts as well as developers and overseas clients. We are also involved in major ongoing projects such as HS2 and Lower Thames Crossing and are responsible for water environment chapters in ES's and WFD assessments.
A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
1. Developing catchment wide river restoration plans for water companies
2. Delivering hydrological reviews / water balance studies for a range of purposes, such as determining supply sources and ensuring a canal remains sufficiently full despite its top up water supply failing
3. Design, modelling and installation of NFM measures for the upper Darent in Kent
4. Developing a modelling approach to inform management decisions at water level dependent designated sites
5. Producing the Fish and Eel Pass Guide to enable safe passage at in channel structures such as pumping stations and weirs
6. Designing and helping delivering awards fish passes and river restoration schemes
7. Deriving catchment improvements for the River Rede, to improve the health of the river
Your role and responsibilities;
The successful candidate will be responsible for high quality project delivery. You will bring unique expertise on specific technologies or processes, will be able to apply acquired expertise and knowledge to solve business challenges, provide coaching to peers and team members, and will be sought for technical experience and able to influence suppliers. The job involves:
1. Working collaboratively with other team members with the ability to make autonomous decisions guided by policies, procedures and business objectives.
2. Accountable for the results of the team or the process establishing goals and objectives and adherence to budget and/or meeting deadlines.
3. Identify trends, issues and opportunities for your area of the business, industry service line or process.

5. Possess highly specialised technical or functional expertise or deep business acumen in your business unit, service line or discipline.
6. Water quality studies
7. Hydrological investigations (including typical as well as drought flows)
8. Use of varied tools to deliver outcomes (software, models etc.)
9. Hydroecological studies
10. WFD / Environmental Compliance/ EIA studies
11. Project management (including client management), technical proposal and report writing.
12. Contributing to Nature Based Solutions such as wetland creation and river restoration schemes.
The majority of our work is in the fluvial environment, although a significant proportion is also focused on estuaries, lakes and the marine environment.

Qualifications
Here's what we will need from you;
1. Have a degree (or equivalent) in relevant subject (geography, physical sciences, engineering etc.)
2. Proficiency in the application of hydrological software and environmental modelling (hydrological/ hydraulic/ water quality/ water resources)
3. Proficiency in GIS software
4. Report writing skills and ability to clearly present complex technical information visually and orally to a wide audience
5. Experienced in technical project delivery (from bid preparation/ drafting technical proposals to project management)
