The Vacancy
The Director of Corporate Affairs will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's reputation, managing strategic relationships, and ensuring the alignment of corporate communication across all levels. The role involves actively managing and influencing key stakeholders, particularly in local, regional, and national government, to ensure that the company’s interests are represented and advanced. The position also requires close collaboration with Business Development and Marketing functions, while leading the Public Relations (PR) strategy and execution with a team of 3-5 colleagues. The role will report into the Chief Growth & Impact officer of MTC.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement:
1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in local, regional, and national government.
2. Influence and shape public policy and legislative frameworks that impact the organisation.
3. Monitor government policy changes and trends that affect the business, providing strategic insights to senior management.
4. Act as the primary point of contact with government officials, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and lobby groups.
2. Strategic Partnerships & Relationship Management:
1. Identify and engage with key external partners, including trade associations, media, IUK, and other Catapults to foster collaboration that advances business objectives.
2. Develop strategies for influencing critical decision-makers within key sectors that are important to the organisation’s growth.
3. Lead efforts to build long-term, value-driven relationships that support business growth and market positioning.
3. Business Development & Marketing Alignment:
1. Work closely with the Business Development and Marketing teams to ensure seamless integration of corporate messaging in strategic initiatives and business growth campaigns.
2. Support the identification of market opportunities through the establishment of key external partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
3. Align external communications to reinforce business development goals and strategic market positioning.
4. Public Relations Leadership:
1. Lead the Public Relations function, ensuring a proactive approach to media relations and crisis communication.
2. Develop and execute the organisation’s PR strategy to enhance reputation and brand equity.
3. Oversee the development of press releases, public statements, speeches, and key messaging for senior executives.
4. Manage relationships with external PR agencies and consultants to ensure impactful campaigns and media coverage.
5. Crisis and Issues Management:
1. Act as a key advisor to senior leadership in managing corporate crises and reputational risks.
2. Ensure robust issues management protocols are in place to protect and enhance the organisation’s image and standing.
3. Manage internal and external communications during times of crisis, ensuring transparency and clarity.
6. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):
1. Provide strategic oversight to the company’s CSR initiatives.
2. Ensure alignment between CSR activities and corporate reputation goals, fostering positive relationships with the community, government, and stakeholders.
7. Leadership & Team Management:
1. Lead and mentor the Corporate Affairs team, ensuring professional development and high performance.
2. Provide strategic direction, performance management, and mentorship for the Public Relations and communications team members.
3. Promote a culture of open communication, innovation, and accountability within the department.
Person Specification
Key Competencies:
1. Proven ability to develop and execute corporate affairs strategies.

Qualifications & Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate affairs, public relations, or government relations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
3. Demonstrated experience in engaging with government officials, policymakers, and other external stakeholders.
4. Experience working closely with Business Development and Marketing teams.
5. Proven track record in managing public relations campaigns, media relations, and crisis communications.
