Senior Mechanical Engineer required to join a leading company based in Plymouth.
Hybrid role: 2 days on site per month
Sole British national
12-month contract with likelihood of extension
Rate: £70/hr Umbrella (Inside IR35 )
Essential
* Will require good mechanical services knowledge. The work package is the design and build of a process piping and treatment system, so foundational knowledge of such systems is required.
* Experience of line managing designers.
* Experience of working in a 3D BIM environment.
Highly Desirable (at least 1)
* Design experience in a highly regulated industry.
* Understanding of nuclear safety.
Overall Department Direction
The purpose of the Senior Engineer - Mechanical post is:
* To manage the delivery of mechanical engineering work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule, and cost.
* Responsible for managing the technical aspects of the mechanical engineering packages from identification of the need, through to handover.
Main Purpose of Role
* Lead and manage one or more technical design packages agreeing project related objectives, managing designer performance, and making appropriate technical management responses. Provide Subject Matter Expert advice as per discipline.
* Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget.
* Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and leading the project's technical planning process.
* Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with Babcock's Business Management System and Technical Manual.
* Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
* Ensure that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences:
* Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.
* Experience in producing and checking a wide range of engineering reports and supporting more junior engineers in these activities.
* Able to suggest and guide the creation of appropriate hand calculations to verify that concepts/proposals meet design requirements.
* Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities. OR Experience of the design and support of Hydrocarbon/Chemical process/plant systems.
* Experience of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Safety Functions (Nuclear preferred).
* Experience of the Functional Safety implications of process/plant design, and design of safety systems.
* Able to produce and check Process Sequence/P&ID drawings.
* Able to produce and check fabrication drawings to recognised standards, ie BS8888.
* Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartership.
Qualifications:
* A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
