Job Title: Advanced Apprentice Manufacturing Technician

What you will be doing:
Advanced Manufacturing Technicians are responsible for the overhaul and manufacture of components and assemblies found within our complex Maritime and Land based radar products. Manufacturing Technicians will typically have a mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems background and operate across multiple disciplines depending on the type of project being undertaken. To produce or overhaul the components found in our radar products, Manufacturing Technicians will interpret drawings/specifications to plan their work, ensuring they have the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task to the required specification. Manufacturing Technicians are required to check their work against quality standards and make adjustments as required based on their knowledge.
During this four-year apprenticeship, the Advanced Manufacturing Technician Apprentice will develop a detailed understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques, including but not limited to electrical wiring, mechanical fitting, Printed Circuit Board rework and Fiber Optic assembly. Upon successful completion of the Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship, the apprentice will be able to perform complex assembly/disassembly or modification tasks to industry standards such as IPC and ANSI-J on electronic or mechanical components, subassemblies and systems – encompassing new build, repairs, and prototype products.
The Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship has a typical duration of 48 months, with the first year spent in our Skills Development Centre located in Portsmouth Naval Base. During the first 12 months of your programme, you will undertake a range of practical engineering activities supported by our dedicated Engineering Skills Coaches.
On successful completion of your initial engineering training, you will transition to your manufacturing areas at Cowes, Isle of Wight where you will continue to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours. Throughout your Apprenticeship, you will gain valuable experience working on our Maritime and Land radar products, culminating in you completing your End Point Assessment.
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer must comply with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements, and you will be trusted to work both independently and as part of a team. Upon completion of the Apprenticeship, you will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that you undertake, being proactive in finding solutions to problems, and identifying areas to improve business processes.
What Qualification will you get?
* EAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
* Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English (If not previously achieved)
* At the end of the apprenticeship, you will obtain a nationally recognised Apprenticeship Completion Certificate.

5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths, English & Science or Technical Subject.
