The job:
This post is to provide 2:1 support for a young woman who has Angelman Syndrome, whilst out in the community. Providing a high level of support, and participating in activities alongside her in a variety of situations, which meets her physical, emotional, educational, sensory and mental health needs. Activities include swimming, trampolining, cycling, music therapy, etc.
You will also be required to provide full support with toileting/personal care and support at meal times and transport her to these activities.
The right person:
Because of the personal care involved in this role, only female applicants will be considered.
● Have a genuine interest in working with people with physical and learning disabilities
● Care, compassion, patience, fun and a willingness to learn.
● Clean driving licence held for a minimum of two years
● Good command of English, spoken and written, and good communication skills
● An understanding of non verbal communication and how this impacts on behaviour, or a willingness to undergo relevant training
● Physical fitness, as you will be expected to participate in all activities
● Willingness to participate in vocational training programmes, including the use of AAC,
Intensive Interaction
● A knowledge of IT, iPads and communication apps, or a willingness to learn about
these
● Punctuality, as arriving on time as arranged is essential to avoid causing distress
● Flexibility and an adaptable approach, as plans can change at the last minute
● Independent worker, able to use initiative and self manage time and tasks
●must hold a clean driving license for a minimum of two years
The hours :
12 hours per week, worked on Thursday and Friday.
There will also be the opportunity to work up to 5 days a week in the future, as well as casual hours on weekends, holidays, etc.
The rates of pay and benefits:
£12 per hour
You will receive 5.6 weeks pro-rata paid holidays per year.
