We have a new opportunity to be part of our Electronics team in the role of Electronics Systems Engineer.
As an Electronics Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining cutting-edge electronic systems across a variety of applications, including on-car systems, simulators, test rigs, and R&D projects. You will be responsible for configuring and calibrating instrumentation, logging systems, and ECUs, as well as supporting both factory-based operations and potential trackside activities.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced motorsport environment, can quickly learn new concepts, and has a deep understanding of electronic systems in Formula 1.
You will be responsible for:
* Developing electronic systems for use in on-car, HIL simulators, DIL simulators, test rigs, and R&D facilities.
* Taking ownership of processes and procedures related to electronic systems.
* Configuring, calibrating, and implementing instrumentation and logging systems across various test environments.
* Setting up and managing ECUs, data loggers, and sensors for testing and race applications.
* Developing software tools for configuration, calibration, monitoring, analysis, and performance optimization.
* Supporting race and test events, providing expertise in electronic systems operation and troubleshooting.
* Diagnosing and resolving sensor, wiring harness, and electronic control unit faults.
* Defining electronic systems requirements for new and ongoing projects, working closely with other departments.
* Setting up and decoding CAN communications.
* Debugging issues related to embedded software using Simulink and C.
* Analysing telemetry data to assess system performance and troubleshoot issues.
* Developing on-board diagnostic software to enhance F1 car reliability and performance.
What you will need to be successful in this role:
* Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electronics, Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics).
* Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with a solid understanding of electronic theory.
* Experience with instrumentation, sensors, and data loggers.
* Proficiency in Mathworks tools (MATLAB, Simulink).
* Knowledge of high-speed data acquisition and analysis systems.
* Understanding of automotive and motorsport communication protocols (CAN, ARCNET, Ethernet, etc.).
* Experience using CAN diagnostic tools (PCAN, CANalyzer, etc.).
* Familiarity with McLaren Applied Technologies tools (System Monitor, ATLAS).
* Programming skills in C, C#, .Net are desirable.
* Experience with software engineering in C# is highly advantageous.
* Ability to use a data-driven approach to problem-solving.
* A flexible and team-oriented attitude in a dynamic motorsport environment.
* Prior F1 or high-level motorsport electronics experience is a strong advantage.
* A passion for Formula 1 and the ambition to work at the highest level of motorsport.
This is a full-time office-based role based at our campus in Silverstone, with additional requirement to travel to other locations for track tests where necessary.
