An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Band 7 Physiotherapist to work on a permanent basis in the regional Hands Burns and Plastics unit. The unit covers a wide geographical area and has a variety of specialties including Hands; acute traumatic injuries and elective procedures, Plastic reconstructive surgery; traumatic upper and lower limb cases, elective reconstructive surgery; breast, facial, lower limb, skin cancer, sarcoma and the regional burns service.
The role delivers high-quality physiotherapy care in various settings; outpatients including therapy-led hand trauma clinics, dressings, consultant and multidisciplinary clinics, rehabilitation unit within the physiotherapy department, hydrotherapy. It also involves working in the inpatient setting; participating in the trauma ward round and supporting the team on the wards, working closely with the multidisciplinary team.
The role involves delivering advanced assessments, developing and implementing individualised treatment plans and promoting optimal recovery and functional independence. As part of the regional specialty service, you will offer a person-centred approach working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive evidence-based care.
CPD is provided within job planned time, and support through peer supervision from the Team Leads.
Main duties of the job
* To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to a highly complex patient group in the specialty, performing advanced assessments, developing tailored rehabilitation programmes and utilising specialised techniques such as splinting, scar management and manual therapy to enhance recovery.
* To provide physiotherapy support for patients as in-patients, in outpatient clinics and on the day units as applicable to role.
* To provide an advisory service to patients, their families, physiotherapists, consultants, nursing staff and other health care professionals in tertiary and secondary care, both locally and regionally.
* To develop and provide specialist education and training to nursing, medical and physiotherapy staff and any other members of the MDT to optimise each patient's outcome and invest in the learning and development of people.
* To be responsible for own continued professional development.
* Following a period of in-house assessment, induction and training (as appropriate) to be part of the weekend cover.
Job responsibilities
* To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to a highly complex patient group within the Plastic Surgery Directorate encompassing adult and paediatric burns, plastic surgery and hand therapy at both in and out-patient levels.
* To rotate within the speciality every 6 months working across in patients, outpatients, adults and paediatrics.
Person Specification
KNOWLEDGE
* Highly specialist knowledge of medical conditions relevant to the speciality and their impact on patient's functional abilities
* Highly specialist knowledge of the physiotherapy process and its application with the client group in the speciality
* Knowledge of undertaking research projects
* Knowledge of current NHS initiatives e.g. National Service Frameworks, Improving Working Lives
SKILLS
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to pass on skills and knowledge to others both formally and informally
* Good organisation, time management, problem-solving and prioritisation skills
* Ability to work as part of a team

* IT Skills

EXPERIENCE
* Significant post-grad experience including working at senior level within Burns and Plastic Surgery/Musculoskeletal setting
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of teaching and delivering presentations
* Previous experience at advanced level
* Experience of carrying out audit projects
QUALIFICATIONS
* Degree or equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy
* State Registered with Health & Care Professions Council
* Evidence of CPD and relevant post-graduate courses
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
* Involvement with the relevant CSP Clinical Special Interest Group
