Job Description
We’re recruiting for a new opportunity as Head of Private Markets Tax where you will be a business partner and key point of contact to the Private Markets business in the L&G Group. You will provide innovative solutions to strategic objectives, threats, and opportunities relating to L&G’s Private Markets businesses. The role holder will be expected to work closely with all Private Markets and Group Tax areas and teams, travel to all relevant L&G sites, as well as present at various internal committee and Board meetings.
What you'll be doing:
1. Leading the development and delivery of all tax business partnering, advisory services, policies, plans and strategies, in relation to the Private Markets business including property taxes, illiquid fund taxation, indirect and operational taxes specialisms, international and transfer pricing and provide innovative and creative solutions to address risks in relation to these areas.
2. Acting as the key point of contact within Group Tax for all tax matters relating to the Private Markets business and lead the development and delivery of all tax business partnering, risk management, compliance, reporting, advice and strategies across all asset classes with support from specialists in the tax team.
3. Ensuring appropriate, cost-effective processes and resources are in place to deliver across these areas including the implementation of appropriate operating models, governance, policies, and risk management frameworks in line with Group policies and procedures.
4. Maintaining good technical knowledge of asset management tax issues specific to illiquid investments (UK and international) and monitor relevant changes in tax legislation for applicability to L&G, assessing impact and being able to provide clear briefing for BUs and non-tax specialists on the relevant issues.
5. Responsible for the appropriate development and training of staff required for the delivery of the tax services to the Private Markets business.
6. Applying judgement and technical skills to provide tax advice and guidance, to the tax leadership team and other senior managers & Directors within Group and the business to ensure sound understanding of asset management tax issues in order to meet financial and business targets.
Qualifications
Who we're looking for:
1. Qualified Accountant (8+ years PQE), or with sufficient experience of financial accounting to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
2. Knowledge of UK Taxes Acts covering corporation tax, income tax, VAT and stamp duty to the extent that they apply to the companies in the group for which tax responsibility is held.
3. Understanding of the key concepts which drive regulation within our markets.
4. Understanding of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Legal & General's strategy.
5. Knowledge of the Private Markets business and products and how they interrelate, including knowledge of the operational structures of senior management and their reporting lines.
6. Ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear, simple manner to a wide audience and to solve complex problems at short notice and under stressed situations.
7. Ability to review for trends, anticipate problems/omissions and consider potential ways to mitigate them.
8. Builds and develops strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business.
