Effective Special Educational Needs teachers are a special type of person. You will be teaching and supporting some of society’s most vulnerable children, from pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities to children who find conforming to the behavioural expectations of mainstream education particularly challenging.
All teachers have their own unique skill sets, but the most effective special needs teachers possess extraordinary traits that enable them to excel in their roles.
Job Duties:
Teaching and supporting pupils with special educational needs
Adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students
Creating and implementing individual education plans
Collaborating with other professionals to provide holistic support
Managing challenging behaviour effectively
Required Qualifications:
PGCE, QTS
Education:
Special Education Needs training or relevant qualifications
Experience:
Experience in a SEN school or similar setting
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong understanding of SEN strategies and interventions
Ability to work effectively with pupils with autism, ADHD, and other learning disabilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional SEN qualifications or training

This role involves working in a SEN school setting with pupils who have a range of special educational needs. The work may be challenging but also incredibly rewarding, making a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
