About the role
Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan is seeking an experienced and dedicated Acting Program Leader - Sport (Year 7-12). This position holds a full time, permanent teaching role with a fixed term appointment from 20 January 2025 to 17 January 2027 for the Middle Leader position.
The role of the Program Leader - Sports (Year 7-12) is to support the mission of the school through leadership of specific academic, cultural, outreach, sporting or other defined programs offered to students and/or the school community. This involves interacting with students, employees and parents in an appropriate manner as well as developing and implementing effective processes and practices in keeping with the values and ethos of the school. The Sports Program Middle Leader will assist the principal and leadership team in the employment and evaluation of teachers and employees within the program. The role may also involve interacting with personnel and organisations outside the school community and developing partnerships that enhance results for students.

Key Accountabilities
Program Leader – Sport is responsible for:
6. Leadership of the Sports Program in the college
7. Supervision of teachers engaged in the program
8. Induction of new teachers within the Sports program (or supervision of induction where it is undertaken by another experienced teacher), and/or
9. Pastoral care of staff engaged in the Sports program
10. Other appropriate duties as required by the Principal and consistent with the level of expertise indicated above.
Educational Leadership:
11. Keep abreast of developments within the area of responsibility through on-going professional reading and research and providing for the professional learning of employees in line with these developments
12. Engage in professional discourse with employees on an individual and departmental basis through regular meetings to maintain best practice standards
13. Demonstrate professional activity through membership of professional associations and on-going professional development
14. Monitor the holistic development of students through observing their academic, social, spiritual and physical well-being and addressing areas of concern through appropriate interventions e.g.: student protection, external referral agencies
15. Promote a broad vision of student welfare that extends beyond behavioural management and demonstrating initiative, perseverance, acceptance of responsibility, effective organisational skills, ability to communicate appropriately and ability to foster cooperation and collegiality
16. Contribute to the leadership through active participation in employee and middle leadership meetings
17. Communicate departmental decisions, issues and concerns with the principal or his/her delegated person
18. Manage financial and material resources within the program including the formulation of budgets and the expenditure of allocated funds
19. Regularly communicate with stakeholders about issues of legitimate interest and/or concern
20. Research and analyse the operations of similar programs in other schools and sectors to enhance the school’s program, to determine areas of success and areas for improvement and to develop plans to address these.
Mandatory Criteria/Professional Registration/Other
21. Appropriate Tertiary qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of Teachers
22. Current Driver’s Licence
23. Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
24. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
