About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to join our growing Civil Liberties Team to represent clients in civil claims against public authorities and representing families at inquests. This is a great opportunity to join an engaging team of specialists, where everyone works closely to deliver the best results for our clients and their families. You will work with a friendly and supportive team on a variety of cases including civil actions and inquests.
The successful candidate will be either a qualified solicitor (or similar) and preferably have experience in the area of civil liberties. You must show commercial awareness and have a drive to succeed.

What you will be doing
1. Representing clients with civil actions from inception through to conclusion.
2. Liaising with clients, counsel, defendants and other parties.
3. Collating and reviewing documentation and evidence.
4. Obtaining medical/accountancy evidence when required and interpreting that evidence to advise accordingly.
5. Expeditiously progressing cases in line with legal parameters while managing client expectations.
6. Litigating cases.
7. Actively engaging in business development to ensure high visibility of the department and wider company.
8. Developing the skills of junior colleagues in the department.
9. Adhering closely to client protocol and process.
10. Complying with the required standard for internal procedures.
11. Any other duties commensurate with this post.
What you will need
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
2. Experience of working on litigative cases.
3. Preferably experience of dealing with Legal Aid.
4. Knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and the Human Rights Act, and up to date with current legislation.
5. Good understanding of the Coronial process.
6. Ability to draft letters of claim/instruction, statements and prepare court submissions.
7. Ability to gather, scrutinize and fact check evidence.
8. Ability to work sympathetically and effectively with a wide range of clients with differing needs.
9. Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise multiple pending tasks and provide realistic timescales for completion.
10. Respectful towards others with a positive, willing and 'can do’ attitude.
11. Keen to learn, interested in driving your own career progression and proactive in taking ownership of this.
