Higher Level Teaching Assistant with Lead on Forest Schools Permanent Role – Wigston Site
Birkett House is a very popular and successful all age special school for pupils with learning difficulties. We are a multi-sited school in South Leicestershire, the main site is in Wigston, and we also have inclusion units at Thistly Meadow Primary School (Blaby), Little Hill Primary School (Wigston), Thomas Estley Community College (Broughton Astley) and a purpose-built Senior Department based in Countesthorpe.Job Information:
We currently have a vacancy for a full-time permanent High Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Wigston based, principally for PPA cover across school, taking a lead on Forest Schools to pupils. This position would suit a person who has knowledge of, or a passion for working with pupils aged 4-19 with learning disabilities and ideally trained in Forest School activities.

• Deliver a high quality of teaching and learning in the capacity of leading on forest school activities. You do not have to be a qualified instructor in these roles but should be able to demonstrate an interest in these areas to encourage pupils to take part in an active life style.
• Plan and prepare the lessons for whole classes to cover PPA for a variety of teachers.
• To support teachers in developing the curriculum and opportunities for students.• Provide support to teachers in evaluating pupil progress through a range of assessment activities.• Monitor pupil learning and modify tasks as needed.• Develop structured teaching and learning activities which interest pupils and motivate them to advance their learning.• Use behaviour management strategies in line with schools policy and procedures, which contribute to a purposeful learning environment.• Attend teacher meetings and contribute to discussion and ideas as a part of the team.• To be able to lead and support other adults supporting teaching and learning in the classroom.Please refer to the job description and person specification for further information about the role.
Essential Qualifications required:• Level 3 Forest School Leader (or willingness to undertake)
• HLTA/Teaching and Learning/Equivalent - Level 4 qualification (or willingness to undertake)
• Right to work in UK
• Driving license
Contract type: Term time only plus 5 training days
Contract term: Full time, term time, permanent Salary
Starting Salary: Grade 8, point 15 - 18
Working hours: 33.61 hrs/wk (includes attendance at weekly Teacher Meeting)
Pro rata salary: Actual salary starts at £21,549 - £23,376 (full time equivalent £27,717 - £30,066)Employee Benefits:
