Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer on a 1 month rolling contract, located in Liverpool. Role Summary As a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems within buildings. You will lead the design process, ensuring that mechanical systems meet project requirements, adhere to industry standards, and comply with applicable regulations. This role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering and building services design, as well as excellent communication and project management skills. Key Responsibilities: System Design: Lead the development of detailed mechanical designs for building services systems, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), plumbing, and fire protection systems. CAD Drafting: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) to create mechanical drawings, schematics, and layouts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with design standards. Load Analysis: Perform thermal load calculations, airflow simulations, and pipe sizing calculations to optimize the performance and efficiency of HVAC systems, ensuring comfort, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency. Equipment Selection: Select mechanical equipment, components, and materials based on project specifications, energy efficiency goals, and budget constraints, ensuring compatibility and reliability. Code Compliance: Ensure that mechanical designs comply with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards, including ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and relevant plumbing codes. Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, reports, and documentation related to mechanical designs, including equipment schedules, piping diagrams, and installation instructions. Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews and quality checks of mechanical designs to identify and address any discrepancies, errors, or omissions, ensuring high-quality deliverables. Project Coordination: Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction phases to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges related to mechanical designs, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and ensure successful outcomes. Site Support: Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), conducting site inspections, and resolving mechanical-related issues in a timely manner. Continuing Education: Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in mechanical engineering technology, and changes in relevant codes and standards through continuous learning and professional development activities. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Professional engineering licensure (PE) is preferred but not required. Extensive experience in mechanical engineering and building services design, with a focus on commercial, industrial, or institutional projects. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and mechanical design software (e.g., HVAC design software, pipe flow simulation software). Thorough understanding of mechanical codes, standards, and regulations, including ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes, and relevant plumbing codes. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
