Main duties of the job
To provide Occupational therapy to schools as part of the BCHC Plus traded service.
To provide highly specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and treatment to meet the agreed goals of children, families, and schools.
To work as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to deliver highly specialist interventions according to the agreed need.
To develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents/carers and other stakeholders, using highly developed negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
To maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice within the specialist area of the service, with reference to current research and evidence-based practice, contributing to safe effective practice in the specialist clinical area.
Demonstrate clinical leadership and represent the Traded BCHC service in all appropriate meetings to support the planning and development of quality services across the city.
To contribute to the identification of training needs of team members and other professionals and deliver training in the highly specialist area.

• Carrying out specialist assessments in the service area. Developing and implementing a range of programmes of care and treatment to meet the needs of the clients, families, and their environments in accordance with agreed pathways and packages of care in the specialist area.
• Negotiating with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and carers with reference to case management of complex cases including instigating appropriate referrals as appropriate.
• Using specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgments and decision-making for highly complex cases including decisions to discharge.
• Undertaking differential diagnosis of cases and contribute to overall decision-making for complex clients with a range of disorders as part of a team approach.
• Identifying and planning appropriate intervention including delivering assessment and therapy in groups and one-to-one sessions, in accordance with the pathways & service agreed packages of care.
• Providing appropriate treatment based on best practice, adapted to client’s needs and priorities including advising other professionals and parents on the appropriate type and level of support needed to develop skills in the home/school environment.
• The post holder will assess, provide and monitor the use of therapeutic equipment as required. This will involve liaising with other agencies, teaching parents or carers about health and safety issues surrounding the equipment to enable its safe use.

Skills and Knowledge
* Competent in using evidence base to inform clinical decisions.
* Knowledge of the national and political agenda influencing health services and specific service area.

Qualifications / training
* Degree Qualification relevant in Occupational Therapy.
* Full Membership of Professional body RCOT.
* Registered with the Health Care Professions Council.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Relevant leadership skills/training in clinical leadership.
Experience
* Extensive post-registration experience working as a therapist with children.
* Extensive experience of working as a specialist OT in community settings.
* Relevant experience of managing, leading, or coordinating a team or project.
* Relevant experience of managing safeguarding concerns.
* Significant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals.
* Extensive OT experience of assessment and intervention.
* Extensive experience of managing a mixed caseload of children and young people.
* Relevant experience of working within NHS, knowledge of SEND, Local Authority and NHS Drivers.
* Extensive experience of providing written communication/reports.
* Significant experience of delivering successful/effective training.
* Ability to travel to various work locations across the city, which may involve the transportation of therapy-related equipment.
* Ability to prioritise own workload.
* Ability to respond to and lead change/innovation in specialist area.
* Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels within the boundaries of the role and clinical competence.
* Is able to deliver a number of clinical contacts/packages of care (POCs)/school contracts across the working week to meet service and patient needs.
* Has a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle to use for work.
