Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will play a crucial role in upholding the safety standards of one of the most iconic and bustling stadiums in the UK.
The Impact You’ll Make
As the Head of Safety and Security, you will oversee and implement comprehensive safety measures across Ashton Gate Stadium, ensuring a secure environment for all events, matchdays, and day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with all relevant safety legislation, including safety laws and regulations laid out in the Stadium Safety Certificate. You’ll be at the forefront of stadium safety, leading a team of stewards, overseeing safety operations, conducting regular safety inspections, and ensuring that emergency procedures are in place and effectively practiced.
Your role will involve working closely with emergency services, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders to maintain the highest safety standards. You will ensure matchday stewarding is managed efficiently, undertake detailed pre-event and post-event checks, and oversee critical infrastructure systems, such as fire alarms, CCTV, and emergency lighting. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring that contingency plans are regularly reviewed and updated, ensuring the stadium is prepared for any unexpected situation.
Your Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will need to bring extensive experience and a strong background in stadium safety and security.
The required experience and skills are as follows:
* A Level 4 NVQ in Spectator Safety (or higher)
* An SIA Door Supervisor Licence
* IOSH or NEBOSH certification
* Proven experience in stadium safety operations, ideally in venues with a capacity of 10,000+
* A deep understanding of the Green Guide (6th Edition), as well as relevant safety legislation and regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, Safety at Sports Grounds Act, and Football Spectators Act 1989
* Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining contingency plans in collaboration with emergency services and regulatory bodies
* Knowledge and expertise in crowd management and safety risk assessments
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Experience operating CCTV in stadium or large crowd contexts, with a demonstrated ability to vigilantly spot suspicious behaviours.
* Experience operating control rooms during matchdays as a safety officer.
A background in conducting safety exercises such as table-top drills is also highly desirable.
