King's College Hospital is seeking a skilled and motivated Highly Specialist Clinical Neuropsychologist to develop our new inpatient neuropsychology service. This is a new leadership role dedicated to the development and evaluation of the systematic provision of highly specialised neuropsychological assessments and intervention for adult inpatients presenting with complex neuropsychological, neuropsychiatric, and/or cognitive symptoms in the context of acute neurological disorders.
This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful psychological impact on the care of patients with complex neuropsychiatric and neurological conditions while working in a dynamic and supportive hospital environment.
The post holder will have doctoral-level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) and significant experience working with adults in acute neurological and neuropsychiatric settings. Expertise in neuropsychological assessment and interventions within multidisciplinary environments is essential along with strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with patients, families, and professional teams.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate closely with neuropsychiatry and neurology teams to clarify diagnoses when psychiatric, psychological, and neurological symptoms overlap or present diagnostic challenges.
* Conduct direct neuropsychological assessments and brief interventions, sharing case formulations with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* Provide expert advice and consultation to professionals involved in the psychological care of patients.
* Support ward staff in managing patients with challenging behaviors through formulations, interventions aimed at reducing aggression, and facilitation of reflective practices.
* Contribute to patient care and discharge planning by providing interventions and liaising with families, carers, and external agencies to ensure cohesive care plans.

Job responsibilities
To provide comprehensive and highly specialist neuropsychology rehabilitation as part of this service. To provide highly specialist clinical neuropsychological evaluation of patients (including neuropsychological formulation and assessment, self-report measures, as appropriate), structured observations, clinical interviews, and to interpret and integrate this highly complex data. The development and monitoring of neuropsychological rehabilitation/treatment programmes within a multidisciplinary context. This includes formulating psychologically based treatment management plans which are specific to each client based upon an analysis of complex factors contributing to the presentation, and selectively drawing on appropriate conceptual and theoretical models within the context of neurorehabilitation. To deliver evidence based psychological treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions drawing on a range of theoretical options.
To provide professional and clinical supervision and line management to junior clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and trainee psychologists for all aspects of their work. To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to staff and carers. To receive regular clinical and professional supervision at least monthly from a more senior clinical neuropsychologist according to Trust guidelines.
To initiate and implement service development projects within own service area and other relevant agencies as required. To identify any aspects of the service which need to be improved and to advise service and professional managers on appropriate changes. To contribute to the development and improvement of the service or other organisational issues through taking a lead role on appropriate projects.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Doctoral level qualification in clinical psychology
* HCPC registered clinical psychologist
* Eligibility for chartered status with the BPS.
* QiCN or evidence of working towards this qualification
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant post qualification experience as a clinical neuropsychologist with post qualification experience specifically in an acute hospital or neurorehabilitation setting- including neuropsychology assessment and formulation.
* Experience of post qualification psychological work with clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature
* Significant experience of offering consultation within a multi-professional team or other professional groups.
* Experience of providing staff support.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision to more junior Clinical Psychologists/Neuropsychologists, trainees and Assistant Psychologists
* Experience of working with and addressing issues of diversity.
* Experience of service development.
Skills and Competencies
* Doctoral level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
* Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical neuropsychological assessment.
* Knowledge of the theory and practice relating to clinical neuropsychology
* Highly specialist knowledge relevant to working with the client group, including patients with addiction and homelessness.
