Job summary
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Medical Secretary has arisen to work as part of our busy Head & Neck team. The role involves providing secretarial support for consultants and junior medical staff, with responsibilities including audio typing and cross-cover for leave, as delegated by the Team Leader.
The post holder will need to demonstrate a significant level of initiative in managing their workload, making decisions, and taking action in line with departmental policies.
Main duties of the job
1. Type all correspondence related to outpatients and inpatients, including departmental correspondence, ensuring a low error rate and meeting Trust turnaround targets.
2. Regularly liaise with the Team Leader to ensure departmental priorities are met.
3. Manage consultants' diaries, book meetings, and take minutes as appropriate.
4. Arrange new and follow-up appointments for patients using the PAS system, liaising with relevant departments.
5. Handle enquiries from patients and staff, resolving more complex issues appropriately.
6. Provide cross-cover for secretarial team during annual leave and sickness absence.
7. Assist with the implementation of new procedures, policies, or technology, including PAS-related systems, supporting team leads.

Person Specification
Typing Test and Interview - Essential
* Previous secretarial experience/audio typing
* RSA/OCR Level 111 or equivalent
* AMSPAR qualification or equivalent experience
* Knowledge of medical terminology
Desirable:
* PAS experience
* Knowledge of RTT/Suspensions
* Microsoft Office skills
* Dragon Medical/Winscribe
Typing test required: Application form and typing test (essential). Knowledge of medical terminology (desirable).
