Software Engineering Manager - Crawley Maritime Mission Systems The role covers the two related disciplines of Software Engineering Management and Software Work Package Management. Software Engineering Management includes the establishment and execution of the appropriate processes, practices and standards for the software development to be undertaken. This includes the selection of appropriate methodologies, lifecycles and tools. It also includes the identification, organisation and management of resources (human and technical) required to undertake the development. Software Work Package Management includes responsibility for the delivery of a defined scope of work to meet specific customer needs within committed cost, time and quality constraints agreed for the project/product. It includes the planning, monitoring and control of the work, identifying and managing risks throughout the work-package duration. Some travel to client sites and occasionally other Thales UK sites may be required. Therefore, flexibility to travel and work at other locations is desirable. Project SDP production and strategy in association with the Stable Team Product Owners. Software DDQS preparation and organisation (in conjunction with Stable Team Product Owners) Overall planning/reporting (Metrics) of all Software Engineering deliveries associated with the project. Produced by SWEM: Artefacts, Project Reqs/Test, PR/Bug status Produced by PO (supplied to SWEM): Burn-up Charts, Quality Build close and supportive relationship with the SEM to aid joint Engineering and Project delivery Software Engineering risk and opportunity management Ensure delivery of Project artefacts both Internal & External (eg. SDD,VDD, SW CofD etc) Management of SW Project budgets (WPA and the like). Ensure Project work and milestones are expressed in Stable Team backlogs, specifying the What, When, Why and Budget. Encourage innovation of ideas as common practice encouraging new technology and techniques. Cognisant and supportive of the integrity of Software Building Blocks and Products and Roadmaps Ownership of SW Project Schedule & Milestones. Provide bids support for potential new work. Articulate the Project level SW Palma structure to SEM. Key performance indicators (KPI's) used include: Delivery to timescales Delivery to budget, including management of scope changes. Delivery within quality KPIs as specified in project/product SDP. Completion of bids (in conjunction with SwARC) in accordance with bid plans. Refinement of processes and practices as a result of experience/feedback from work-package(s). Actions taken in conjunction with software team leader(s) to develop staff allocated to work-package. Skills: Good communication and inter-personal skills. Effective personal organisation and an ability to remain composed and focused under pressure. Organisational awareness, including customer and stakeholder management (internal & external) and negotiation. Ability to delegate appropriately to make best use of resources Experience: Knowledge and proven application of engineering project delivery and processes- across the full project lifecycle with cognisance of commercial impacts. Knowledge and experience of agile methodologies and practices. Experience of configuration control and change management. Experience of requirements management, software design and development. Experience of risk management. Experience of bid management and estimation techniques. Good understanding of current trends in software engineering development techniques and technologies Experience in the use of Orchestra toolset.
