Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a world class engineering company providing products and services to meet the needs of their customers for engineered solutions to high temperature/thermal engineering problems. They are recruiting an HSE Lead for its Hinkley Point C project on a full time, permanent basis.
The HSE Lead role is pivotal to the site operations and comes with a base salary of £89,100, accommodation allowances, travel expenses, overtime with a potential earning of £130,000 per annum (while on 10-12 hour shifts) and 28 days annual leave + bank holidays.

Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager you will:
1. Develop and update HSE policies and procedures to align with organisational and project standards.
2. Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards to ensure employee and environmental protection.
3. Conduct safety training, drills, and campaigns to promote HSE compliance and awareness.
4. Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and report findings to stakeholders.
5. Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety and environmental regulations.
6. Analyse HSE data and trends to improve performance, set KPIs, and drive proactive measures.
7. Chair monthly safety committee meetings and deliver toolbox talks to teams of up to 60 people.
8. Review and manage documentation such as RAMS, VTS, COSHH assessments, and confined space plans to ensure safe operations.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
1. Minimum 10 years' experience in HSE role, with a minimum of 5 years working as a HSE Manager.
2. NEBOSH General Certificate.
3. Bachelor's Degree, NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ level 6, or equivalent within Health and Safety.
4. SMSTS.
5. Experience of working in a HSE capacity on a construction site or high risk environment.
6. Good working knowledge of welding fume and associated occupational health hazards.
7. Good working knowledge of The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997.
8. Knowledge of fabrication and welding practices is advantageous.
Personal skills
The HSE Lead role would suit someone who is:
1. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
2. Good IT literacy.
3. Ability to engage and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders e.g. client, management, and workforce.
Salary and benefits of the HSE Lead role
A base salary of £89,100 (£46.10 an hour across a 38-hour week).
