Job summary As a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist within the Leigh Moss Community Health Team for Older Adults you will be leading a multidisciplinary team providing high quality mental health care for service users under part of the North Liverpool caseload. The team has recently moved base from Mossley Hill Hospital in South Liverpool to the new facility at Leigh Moss Hospital in Knotty Ash, a stone's throw away from Alder Hey Children's Hospital. You will be managing patients with both functional and organic presentations in the community and there is an experienced Consultant body based at Leigh Moss Hospital to provide support. There is a new inpatient facility at Leigh Moss Hospital (Fern ward) where service users with dementia requiring inpatient care can be admitted to. Main duties of the job You will be responsible for the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and ongoing management of service users referred in to the Older Adults CMHT based at Leigh Moss Hospital. In addition you will provide supervision to the multidisciplinary team as well as to any trainee doctors placed within the team. You will be expected to liaise with colleagues in other medical specialities such as Geriatrics, Movement Disorders, Neurology and Neuroradiology where required in order to provide coordinated MDT working for service users. You will be expected to participate in the Trust wide teaching programme which is held on Tuesday mornings and will have dedicated SPA time in order to engage with personal professional development activities, audit and will also be encouraged to take up further management roles as the opportunities arise. Each of these MDTs receives referrals from 12 GP surgeries in the local area. The post holder will be leading one of these MDTs. The annual number of referrals into the post holders MDT was 403 last year. In the 2020-2021 year the annual number of referrals was 304. In 2019-2020 this number was 194. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for patients in their caseload within the Older Adults Community Mental Health Team. There are allocated GP surgeries for each caseload within the service and these are allocated to ensure equity in terms of number of referrals. In line with New Ways of Working, the post holder will provide a consultative, supervisory and supportive role to the multidisciplinary teams work. They will take an active part in the clinical work of the team and a lead role in the development of the service. The post holder will be expected to provide leadership to the Team whose role is to provide assessment, management and support to people who may need contact with Older Adults Mental Health services.
