Job Description Summary
Performs duties relative to preparing surgical specimens for examination by the Pathologist or designee. Receives, prepares and processes all tissue specimens according to laboratory protocol. Supports pathology lab operations to include morgue and autopsy services as required.
Job Responsibilities
1. Transport all surgical specimens to the surgical processing area and correctly log and number all surgical specimens.
2. Clean and prepare the surgical pathology area for daily activities.
3. Prepare reagents, equipment, and instrumentation as required.
4. Clean instruments, glassware, work surfaces, and maintain the morgue.
5. Pre-label specimen containers and fill with appropriate reagent for fixation.
6. Report to workstation/assignment on schedule and work the entire work schedule unless absence/tardiness/leaving work early is pre-approved by their manager.

Non-Essential Functions
1. Other duties as required.
2. Maintain an inventory of surgical supplies and equipment.
3. Assist with photographs of pertinent specimens when required.
4. Perform non-technical duties such as logging in all surgical specimens and accurately recording temperatures.
Data entry experience and ability to use hospital LIS. Medical terminology is a plus.
