One in two individuals born after 1960 will be affected by cancer in UK. The need for standardised approach to cancer education thereby increasing knowledge and confidence of the cancer care workforce is crucial. NHS England recognise this and have developed and launched the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development ( ACCEND) programme. The programme provides guidance on knowledge, skills, and capabilities required by all non-medical health care professionals who care for people living with cancer.
The post holder will have a key role as a senior nurse or AHP in the trust together with Lead Nurses, and Line Managers to support implementation of the ACCEND framework and help embed it into current processes for the existing and future non-medical cancer workforce. They will promote continuous learning and development and raise awareness of the variety of cancer education, training and career opportunities.
This project plans to focus on the development, expansion, and sustainability of practice learning by developing supportive learning environment for the cancer care workforce. The role will help create resources to support line managers and to develop ACCEND champions/mentors. There will be a focus on attracting and retaining staff by offering structured professional development by increasing awareness of career pathways in cancer.
