Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and talented individual to support the teams working in Theatres, Anaesthetics, HDU, Admissions and Day Case Unit (ADCU) and Pre-operative Assessment Clinic (POAC) at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham (ROH). You must have experience of working in an acute hospital setting, with experience of or exposure to theatres being desirable. Working as the Clinical Service Manager you will be responsible for the operational management of the teams.
As a key member of the senior operational team, the Clinical Service Manager will be integral to the delivery of the strategic vision and plan for the ROH.
The successful candidate will be able to maintain and strengthen strong working relationships with all stakeholders both internally and externally e.g. with the ICB, other Trusts and Suppliers.

Main duties of the job
1. Lead and manage the individual services in partnership with the Clinical Lead whilst sustaining effective working relationships with the divisional team, consultant medical staff, and senior nursing team ensuring that the operational requirements of the directorate are effectively managed and co-ordinated.
2. To develop patient focused services, identifying future financial, capital and workforce requirements and ensuring that contractual and performance targets are met.
3. To work with clinical colleagues to establish and monitor protocols of care provision in order to deliver efficient and effective care pathways which improve patient outcomes and reduce lengths of stay.
4. Actively contribute and lead service and other meetings, working cooperatively with clinicians within the service.
5. To continually question and challenge the status quo looking for new and innovative ways to improve service delivery to make the most effective use of resources and ensure services are patient focused.

Education and Qualifications
* Masters Degree or equivalent level of experience in an NHS acute setting.
* Project management qualification or equivalent level of experience
Experience
* Significant experience of senior leadership in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of management of groups of staff of varying levels
* Experience of change management against clinical and financial criteria
* Operational experience of managing theatres
* Financial management of large budgets
* Excellent level of communication - ability to write and convincingly present reports to a range of audiences at all levels of the organisation
* Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality of work
* Emotionally resilient to competing demands within the organisation and local health economy
