Job overview
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, work with all members of the multidisciplinary team, to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care. Main duties of the job
1. To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse (RN).
2. To carry out duties as specified within the Trust's Approved Core Task List for Clinical Support Worker (working within assessed competence).
3. To welcome patients, visitors, and relatives to the clinical area, providing assistance, support, and information where required.
4. To answer the telephone, when necessary, in a polite courteous manner and respond appropriately.
5. Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe keeping of patient's property in accordance with the Trust policy.
6. Promote a professional, welcoming, and uncluttered environment, keeping all storage areas safe and clean and tidy.
7. To ensure up to date with all mandatory training sessions.
8. To have completed the Care Certificate or relevant experience in a care setting.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Clinical duties to include patient hygiene - assisting patients with personal care.
2. Bowel and Stoma Care - to assist the RN with basic aspects of stoma care and reporting any abnormalities.
3. Assisting the RN with catheter care, changing bags, recording output, and reporting any abnormalities.
4. Ensuring patient physical comfort - reporting any signs of physical distress to the RN.
5. Nutrition - Assisting patients with the preparation of food and feeding where required.
6. Clinical measurements - to assist with routine blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring.
7. To provide basic tracheostomy and airway support once assessed competent under the direction of appropriate person.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Education to GCSE level Grade 5 in English and Mathematics or equivalent.
* Care Certificate and/or equivalent Health Care experience.
* City and Guild NVQ Level 3 in Care/Health and Social Care.
Experience
* Some previous experience in a nursing/care assistant role.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
* Good organisational skills.
* Basic IT and computer skills.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Good numeracy and literacy skills.
Other
* Able to make own travelling arrangements.
* Able to work 12.5 hour shift day/night patterns.
* May be required to work in other community hospitals within our Trust in order to meet the needs of the service.
