The Estates Department operate and maintain, energy and environmental resources, controls, electrical and mechanical services providing power, lighting, heating, air conditioning to wards, outpatients and operating theatres. Estates directly impacts on patient welfare, frontline clinical care, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency and sustainability across the Estates Trust. We have an exciting opportunity for a committed highly self-motivated individual. The Royal Marsden is looking for an Estates Assistant to join the Estates Team in Sutton. This is a highly valuable broad ranging role, which will expose the Estates Assistant to the whole range of Estates services including mechanical, electrical, building & energy control systems and project management. The candidate must be highly proactive in all aspects of training and work undertaken, engage in active discussions about skills, techniques, methods and approach to tasks in order to develop to their full potential. The Estates Assistant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which is responsible for providing the safe operation of planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance to The RMH Trust. By carrying out their duties as instructed and undertaking maintenance, installation, and new works tasks to a high standard for all grounds work and services throughout the Trust. This will assist in providing a comfortable, safe, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

1. To understand the workings of the buildings and grounds in NHS/Trust premises. Ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all equipment and grounds are utilised in a safe and efficient manner.
2. To ensure any fault, defect or malfunction of plant, equipment or the fabric of the trust buildings/grounds that affect the patient environment are speedily reported to the relevant supervisor/manager in order to affect appropriate repair. Building Energy Management system (BEMS) can be used for this.
3. To carry out work as requested by management/supervision using the appropriate current works docket/request system and ensuring that all associated paperwork is completed as required.
4. To carry out work unsupervised for all trades/activities within the department appropriate to skills and experience, to include low use outlet flushing of water systems.
5. To respond to work, maintenance, diagnose faults and carry out appropriate and timely repairs in a safe working order to all building/ground’s components and equipment.
6. To undertake grounds works, execution of minor new works, design, manufacture, assemble/erect where required to do so, assist, or oversee contractors and subcontractors which may involve installing specialist equipment and or plant.
