To provide a highly effective, comprehensive foot health service for the population of Surrey Downs Health and Care (SDHC).
Principal Duties to include:
1. Work as an integral member of the podiatry team to assess need and deliver quality programmes of podiatric care to patients in a variety of settings across the SDHC sites.
2. Provide specialised, high quality responsive podiatric treatment to maintain patient’s mobility, independence and prevention of disability.
3. Participate in a mentored rotational programme of specialist clinics, gaining further knowledge and experience in diabetes (acute and community), nail surgery, biomechanics.
4. Assess need and deliver quality programmes of Podiatric care to patients in community clinics and domiciliary settings.
5. Be mentored and supported throughout with an induction process which includes rotations into specialist clinics including wound care, nail surgery and biomechanics.
6. Engage in service transformation, various CPD activities and further study.
7. Assess, diagnose, develop treatment plans and provide effective podiatric treatments, using a problem solving approach based on clinical need and evidence based practice.
8. Provide education and information to help patients manage their own foot needs, including education sessions for new and current patients.
9. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team when required and act as a source of advice to patients, carers, GP’s and other Health Care Professionals.
10. Manage clinical risk within own patient caseload seeking guidance as appropriate.
11. Obtain informed consent prior to treatment plans commencing.
12. Ensure all patients are appropriately assessed prior to referring to the assistant grade.
13. Undertake diagnostic procedures effectively using appropriate equipment e.g. wound swabs, Doppler ultrasound.
14. Be proficient in comprehensive neurological and vascular assessments, wound debridement, advanced pathology and wound management e.g. dressing selection.
15. Carry out a thorough medical assessment to ensure suitability of local anaesthesia and minor surgery.
16. Undertake specialist surgical intervention for complex nail pathologies, e.g. nail avulsions and chemical destruction of the nail matrix.
17. Manage a domiciliary caseload within a geographical area, including working with admin teams to book appointments.
18. Maintain clear, comprehensive and accurate records, updating patient’s medical history, evaluating progression, and developing treatment plans as required.
19. Participate in specialist clinical rotations, gaining in-depth knowledge and experience in advanced areas of podiatric practice.
20. Provide advice and guidance to podiatry assistants.
