A leading T1 Contractor is seeking to recruit a Civil Engineering Planner working on a number of key civil engineering major projects within Ireland. Based within the local Belfast office, the Civil Engineering Senior Planner will manage the Planning and Programming on Tender, Preconstruction and Construction stage on major projects, liaising externally with Clients, Consultants and Key Stakeholders.
Reporting directly to the Project Director, you will proactively lead the planning function on selected projects producing well-considered, professional, and achievable methodologies and programmes for both Pre-Construction and Construction activities.
Your Responsibilities:
Create, maintain, and review construction schedules and planning deliverables including planning philosophy, presentations and reports. As the Senior Planner you will provide technical assistance, identifying planning scope, major constraints, and contract requirements along with identifying major quantities and factors affecting the programme collaboratively with the team and supply chain.
You will establish the critical path of the programme. Review and analyse the critical path with the wider team as necessary. Communicate effectively with key members of the team throughout the bid, tender, pre-construction and construction phases, seeking advice where appropriate.
1. Applying resource and resource levelling techniques as necessary
2. Present the project programme and sequence in detail or high level as appropriate
3. Understand and implement the requirements of the building contract(s) about submitting initial and updated programmes
4. Where necessary, provide periodic programme updates with appropriate supporting information to assist the delivery team in reporting
Experience/Knowledge:
Operational experience (site engineer/site agent) together with previous experience in planning Civil / Infrastructure projects. Proficiency in the use of planning techniques and the required planning toolsets.
Understanding of the construction process and a sound understanding of engineering principles and their application, such that works are planned and designs are developed with appropriate regard for buildability.
5. In-depth understanding of the Planning requirements of the JCT and NEC forms of Contract
6. Methods of planning, programming, and progress monitoring
7. Risk and opportunity management with particular reference to planning/ programming
8. An understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment, and labour requirements
Skills:
9. IT literate – Planning and Programming Software Proficient in the use of P6 and Asta Powerproject
10. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
11. Ability to deal with clients & internal staff
12. Ability to work on own initiative
13. Meticulous, organised, proactive with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
14. Self-motivated and enthusiastic
15. Excellent organisational and planning skills
Qualifications:
16. Relevant experience in the construction industry
17. Recognised Construction or technical discipline qualifications
