Techniche Global are supporting a manufacturing/automotive company to appoint an experienced Electro Magnetic Engineering specialist on a long-term contract assignment at their Technical Research & Development facility in Cranfield just outside of Milton Keynes.
The EMC engineering will focus on factors within the design of their production vehicles and oversee the testing which is completed by various testing houses (external suppliers). 60% of the role will be the oversight of these testing suppliers who are based within the UK and on occasion in Europe. The remaining 40% of the role is conducting some in-house testing at the Cranfield R&D centre, as well as liaising with all other engineering teams in the UK and Japan on recommendations, specifications and design changes.
For this role, a full UK driver's license is required, and the ability to travel freely in the UK and around Europe without any visa restrictions. It is hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days in the office.
Key Responsibilities of the Electro Magnetic Engineering Specialist:
1. To support the Electrical & Electronic (EE) Test team with:
2. The validation of:
1. Whole Vehicle EMC (ICE, Hybrid & EV) tests
2. E&E Systems & Electronic parts EMC tests
3. EMC Reg 10 tests
3. Opportunity to visit and support testing at major test facilities across the UK and Europe.
4. To develop and set up new test systems and arrangements for EMC work specific to EV CCS (AC & DC chargers).
5. To work on EMC test set up for V2L, V2G, V2X and Autonomous drive systems.
6. Creation of test plans to meet project and design milestones.
7. Creation of testing procedures, confirmation of vehicle specifications, and test parts required for test, including arrangement of vehicle transportation when required.
8. Overall vehicles test technical coordination role where required (project leader).
9. Formal reporting of test results to design sections and to upper management.
10. Root cause investigation and countermeasure recommendation.
11. Technical support to the production plant when necessary.
12. Field investigation support on occasion.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:
1. Have relevant experience in automotive vehicle & electrical and electronic system development & generic EMC test standards.
2. Have good written and verbal communication.
3. Be able to travel abroad, typically for a few days to 2 weeks, but on rare occasions travel may be long distance and for up to 10 weeks and/or at short notice.
4. Competent with PC applications, including Microsoft Excel and Project.
5. Self-motivating and self-managing. Pro-active. Positive. Energetic personality and flexible regarding working practice and working hours.
6. Ability to prioritize and multitask between multiple projects simultaneously.
7. Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
8. Understand electrical theory and the operation of electronic devices.
9. Have fluent written and verbal English capability.
10. Have Harness/EDS layout and application experience.
11. Be able to follow system circuit diagrams and identify electrical connections.
12. Be able to demonstrate and have practical experience in problem-solving tools and techniques.
13. Experience of using automotive CAD tools.
