RL31291 Job Title: Vehicle Maintenance Technician Location: Oxford City Hours: Shift system between 06:00 and 20:00 (including out-of-hours stand-by duties) Salary: £44k-£49k We are seeking a skilled and reliable Vehicle Maintenance Technician for a role In Oxford. The role involves maintaining and repairing a mixed fleet of vehicles, including commercial and non-commercial vehicles, trailers, and providing retail repairs to cars and vans. You will be responsible for undertaking safety inspections, diagnosing faults, conducting repairs, and ensuring all vehicles meet safety and legal standards. Key Responsibilities: Conduct periodic safety inspections and servicing on all vehicles and plant equipment held or serviced, ensuring accurate documentation of defects, materials used, and the condition of items. Provide roadside assistance, including vehicle recovery to the workshop. Diagnose vehicle faults using electronic diagnostic tools and perform repairs as required. Prepare and submit vehicles for annual MOT inspections, ensuring all vehicles comply with DVSA standards. Perform electrical repairs, including battery checks and charging. Manage workshop security, including opening and closing of the workshop, stores, and depot yard outside of normal working hours. Take responsibility for the accurate booking of parts from the Motor Transport stores. Participate in out-of-hours stand-by and call-out duties on a rota basis. Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations within the workshop and while working in external locations.Required Skills and Experience: Full valid UK Driving Licence (or European equivalent) and the ability to obtain a provisional LGV licence. City and Guilds Full Craft Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (or equivalent qualification). Extensive experience working with a mixed fleet of vehicles and conducting inspections, servicing, and repairs on cars and vans. Experience using electronic diagnostic equipment. Strong understanding of DVSA testable vehicle items and acceptable tolerances. Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work under pressure with high accuracy. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Capable of working under vehicles and moving around the workshop efficiently.Desirable Criteria: Experience working with the public. DVSA Approved Tester for Classes IV-VII. Computer literate with basic IT skills. Willingness to train as a DVSA Approved Tester for Classes IV-VII.Additional Requirements: Applicants must provide their own tools.
