Role: Medical Lab Assistant - Biochemistry
Site: London, HCA Laboratories - Shropshire House, 10a Capper St, London WC1E 6JA
Hours: 37.5 Hours per week. Monday – Friday between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00
Contract Type: Permanent

We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Biochemistry team at our HCA Laboratories based in Shropshire House.
HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.
Please note, regular weekend work will be required too.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the day-to-day management of the referrals section for the Biochemistry department.
2. Receive samples.
3. Ensure correct samples are received for tests required and query any problems identified.
4. Process blood/serum/plasma and other body fluid samples for analysis, prepare aliquots for referral sites and for storage.
5. Complete maintenance and disinfection/cleaning routines.
6. Loading and unloading Analysers.
7. Assist BMS’s in performing the analytical functions of the service.
8. Stock control and unpacking deliveries.
9. Machine maintenance.
10. Work independently and as part of a team.
11. Respond to Temperature Monitoring System (Tutela) alarms and record findings.
12. Attend mandatory HCA training.
13. Treat all users of the service in an efficient and courteous manner and ensure that all enquiries that cannot be dealt with directly are passed on to an appropriate senior member of the Section.
14. Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post.
