Bairns’ Hoose is a model to provide holistic support to children who have been victims or witnesses of abuse, are under the age of criminal responsibility and whose behaviour may have caused harm. Based on the Icelandic ‘Barnahus’ model the ‘four rooms approach’ aims to provide a single setting for Child protection, Health, Recovery & Whole Family Support and Justice. It’s important to reduce the number of times children are asked to retell their stories as this can be difficult and retraumatising. Instead, trauma-informed practice is prioritised to support the child’s recovery in a safe, respectful, friendly, and welcoming environment. Bairns’ Hoose includes the Scottish Child Interview Model – a new approach to joint investigative interviewing. It maintains the focus upon the needs of the child in the interview and minimises the risk of further traumatisation. The CSM post will support the implementation of Bairns’ Hoose standards and continued roll out of SCIM across Highland, with a focus on local solutions for Highland communities. The CSM shall also be working with the leadership team to ensure that the transformational vision of the Promise is embraced, supported, planned and operationalised across children’s services. Voice, participation, lived experience and children rights must be protected, respected, and at the heart of Bairns’ Hoose, This leadership role has strong overall accountabilities in respect of Highland’s child protection statutory duties in ensuring robust assessment of vulnerable children and developing and supporting recovery for the child Please APPLY ONLINE.
