Clarus Education are working with a Higher Education University within Nottingham, who are looking for a number of Academic Mentors, to support diverse students aged between 22-60 years old in Business Management.
The successful applicant will mentor, guide and coach Level 4 Business Management students, to ensure all students are enabled to succeed in their required assessments and submissions in a wide range of academic and pastoral topics, particularly in Business Management.
Academic Mentors contribute and develop high quality academic mentoring for a cohort of students in Business Management, supporting, developing, and implementing strategies which contribute towards effective learning, behaviour, and achievement throughout the students’ time at the school, which then enhances their attendance, engagement, and retention.
The Academic Mentors will proactively seek to improve attention, attendance, progression of students by providing a healthy, safe, happy, and challenging environment in which students feel supported and can work hard, free of disruption, develop mutual respect, grow in confidence, and achieve their potential.
The post holder will report into the Programme Lead to support successful assignment submissions of the students.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate should be a Business Graduate and have experience in some kind of educational sector role, ideally related to Business Management, Finance or Economics and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to support students.
You will have knowledge of the range of support services available to students and you will be able to adopt an organised and methodical approach to work, to be self-sufficient and self-directed in pursuit of supporting students and achieving targets.
On average, you will be responsible for providing one-to-one support for around 140-150 widening participating students, both online and in a face-to-face capacity. You will be required to write up various reports and be dedicated to coaching and mentoring the students assigned to you.
You will also have knowledge of awarding body regulations as well as safeguarding to ensure your approach is well within the guidelines at all times.
Role Requirements:
1. A subject specialism of business management (accountancy / finance / marketing / economics, etc.) – essential
2. Experience of academic and administrative management is essential
3. A degree or higher in a relevant field or equivalent experience
4. Strong Organisation and time management skills
5. Excellent communicator verbally and in writing
6. Cooperative and collaborative
Desirable
7. Master’s Degree level of qualifications
8. Aspiration to potentially become a lecturer in the future
9. Teaching qualification (PG Cert of equivalent)
10. HEA fellowship and/or PGCAP
