We are looking to employ enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to join the General Portering Team at the RUH.
General Portering ensures safe movement of patients to and from wards, clinics, and departments throughout the RUH. General Portering works 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Main duties of the job
This is a physically active and demanding role, in which your primary duties will be the safe transportation of patients to wards, clinics, and departments. There will be lots of walking in the role and also the requirement to use a powered Bedpusher machine (Once Fully Trained & Competent).
There is also the requirement to distribute and collect post from all Trust Areas and to move equipment, furniture, and beds as necessary between areas of the hospital. You will also assist with the distribution and collection of Medical Gases around the RUH Site.
You will be required to use a handheld device to manage any tasks assigned to you to ensure the safe transportation of patients and equipment across the site.
We are looking to recruit individuals who are flexible, highly motivated, and who have a professional approach and attitude. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team or independently are essential.

The General Portering Team is a team of 36 who provide a professional service to wards, departments, and clinics across the Trust. The department operates a rota system for staff shifts, covered over a 4-week period, with adequate notice given to staff to ensure a proper work/life balance. Exposure to distressing instances is part of the role.
