This role involves managing all aspects of horticulture within Africa, Asia and the Middle East. You will champion Conservation, Sustainability, Biodiversity and Irrigation, to ensure and implement efficient use of resources. Liaising with stakeholders and Regional Managers, you will establish and achieve horticultural standards to maintain quality assurance across all our cemeteries.
This role is based in the UK, however you will travel, occasionally at short notice, to support our teams in country as and when needed and issues arise.
As the Area Horticultural Manager, you will guide on cemetery design concepts and advise on the impact of any major structural projects. You will also contribute to the recruitment and training of staff.
Key tasks include Tree Risk Management, Machinery Fleet Management, Managing and developing the Area’s sustainability initiatives and reporting on the impact of climate change. Plus you’ll manage all horticultural chemical usage in line with corporate reduction targets. The role also encompasses supporting the Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure compliance with the Commissions global Health and Safety Policies.
What you need to have
1. A professional and relevant horticultural technical qualification
2. Confident managerial expertise
3. Project Management Experience
4. Strong experience in delivering horticultural projects and initiatives within a multi-site enterprise
5. Proficiency in with change and performance management at operational level
6. Knowledge of researching and compiling business case documents and funding bids
7. Familiarity with managing remotely, and being an excellent motivator capable of mentoring and encouraging your team
8. Excellent communication skills, especially across different cultures, and with the understanding of cultural and political sensitivities and operations in complex environments
9. Experience of working in different cultures is an asset
