You will join the business at an exciting stage in its growth as several new centres and significant redevelopments are maximised and we broaden our product offering to become a true leisure destination. We are known for our exceptional range of products and commitment to customer satisfaction and are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Buyer to join our team and take full responsibility for sourcing and managing a broad selection of garden centre product categories (more specifically Christmas and gifting) that meet customer needs and preferences. This position is being offered on a full time, permanent basis of 37.5 hours a week with an annual salary of circa £43,700 depending on experience. We also offer a generous benefits package including company car, enhanced pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, employee discount and 31 days annual leave. There is also the option to work flexibly depending on your current location, however you must be in within commutable distance to our Head Office, in Ampfield, near Romsey in Hampshire and be willing to travel to this location for part of the working week. Main Responsibilities: Supplier Management: Ensuring we receive the best commercial terms, quality, and availability, making Hillier the 'must supply' retailer. Stakeholder Management: Building strong relationships with head office and operational teams to ensure the execution of your ranges meets a consistently high standard across the business. Critical Path Management: Efficiently following critical paths for POS, customer communications, and events, ensuring 100% accuracy and delivery to enhance the customer journey and maximise sales. Stock and Promotions Management: Managing stock, retails, promotions, and range to ensure maximum profitability while minimising wastage. Through excellent planning and inflight management, budgeted profit and sales are always achieved. Ethical Sourcing: Ensuring the Hillier portfolio is delivered in an ethical, sustainable, and legal way, aligned with the overall business strategy. Performance Analysis: Analysing and evaluating overall performance against the original strategy and identifying lessons for future business cycles. To succeed in this role, you will be creative, energetic, a strategic thinker, and a strong team player. You will be passionate about products and have a clear vision of how your ranges and products will appeal to our customers, ensuring our offer is totally unique. You must be willing to travel, more specifically to attend trade shows and suppliers. Essential skills and experience Experience working in a similar role for a multisite retailer. Proven experience managing a diverse portfolio of suppliers and products. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate terms, and ensure quality and availability. A passion for products and the ability to visualise collections when pulling together ranges, ensuring they are appealing and look stunning. Keen eye for trends and market demands to ensure that the product range is appealing and competitive and the ability to understand how these relate to our customers. Understanding customer needs and preferences to curate a product range that enhances the customer experience. Excellent planning and time management to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with suppliers, stakeholders, and team members. Demonstrates a high level of confidence and expertise in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Proficient in analysing sales data, market trends, and performance metrics to make informed purchasing decisions. Demonstrates the ability to manage and manipulate complex data sets with precision and efficiency. Desirable skills and experience Experience in managing seasonal categories. Experience in sourcing and purchasing products from Asia, ensuring a diverse and competitive product range. Knowledge of the gardening market and garden centres. Interest in gardening.
