My client, a regional contractor delivering new build, design and build, and refurbishment solutions to both the public and private sector throughout London and the South-East, is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to operate between Sussex and London, 30% office-based and 70% site-based.
Duties:
1. Implement the H&S policy & procedures and all legal requirements.
2. Allocate resources within delegated authorities.
3. Input to the tender risk management process.
4. Implement best practice & innovation.
5. Propose resources & supply chain for projects.
6. Support the generation of tenders.
7. Recognise best practice throughout the business.
8. Keep project schedule up to date with current/pending projects.
9. Set and maintain standards of safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) practice and deliver relevant awareness training to internal staff and contractors as appropriate in accordance with customer requirements.
10. Monitor competencies of all staff and provide advice on any shortfalls.
11. Participate in the promotion of safety programmes and schemes that may be developed on a local and business unit level.
12. Update inspection template as required.
13. Conduct monthly inspections on all sites and submit a report.
14. Visit sites on request for advice, training, support, or to complete specific assessments (e.g., fire assessment / RAMS).
15. Follow up closed down actions of reports.
16. Provide monthly statistics of inspections.
17. Attend project meetings as requested.
18. Head quarterly H&S Committee meetings and submit minutes to all staff.
19. Research and implement any new H&S features/initiatives following committee meetings.
20. Assist in systems audits.
21. Support systems manager in system procedures/documentation/closing out non-conformities/attend management review meetings.
22. Attend project handover/debrief meetings.
23. Conduct accident/near miss investigations and update statistics.
24. Update Health and Safety Legal register/annual compliance checks.
25. Submit H&S Bulletins companywide when required.
26. Send emails/memos/letters to staff on industry and procedure updates/changes when required.
27. Keep abreast of legislation and industry updates and changes by reading weekly HSE updates and construction internet, reading monthly safety magazine publications, and attending any relevant seminars (IIRSM, IOSH).
