About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team at NZT Civils & Structures. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all costs and income within your designated area, ensuring the delivery of projects within budget while maintaining high standards of quality. As a key member of the commercial team, you will help minimize costs, enhance value for money, and contribute to the successful completion of projects. You will also lead a small team of less experienced commercial staff, providing guidance and mentorship to support their professional development.
This role is ideal for a motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor, preferably a Chartered Member of RICS, ICES, or CIOB, who is looking to take the next step in their career and make a significant impact on high-profile projects.
What you'll be doing
Governance & Compliance
* Adhere to company governance requirements, ensuring all processes meet required standards.
* Maximize LEAN/digital opportunities to enhance project efficiency.
Commercial Management & Administration
* Systematically order, check, and manage data for cost and financial management.
* Prepare Activity and Resource Schedules, analyze tender documents, and critically appraise, estimate, and negotiate with third parties.
* Review complex contract programmes, including Time-Location and delay/disruption programmes.
* Monitor subcontract activities, measure performance, and respond appropriately to any issues.
* Prepare internal reports and provide commercial progress updates and financial reconciliations to senior project staff.
Customer & Change Management
* Understand the Customer Contract and manage customer and stakeholder relationships effectively.
* Analyze rates and prices, agree on variations and compensation events, and negotiate claims as needed.
* Manage the commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders within your area of responsibility.
Procurement
* Conduct constructability analyses using construction programmes.
* Prepare procurement programmes and assist in developing procurement strategies.
Team Development & Leadership
* Supervise and support the recruitment, development, and retention of team members.
* Mentor and guide less experienced commercial staff on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.
Who we're looking for
Pre-existing Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Essentials:
* A BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge.
* Chartered status (MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB) or actively working towards it.
* A valid CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person).
* Proven track record of managing all costs and income within a project and enhancing value for money.
* Experience in leading and mentoring a team of commercial staff.
* In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and cost control in the construction industry.
Desirable:
* Experience with digital tools and LEAN principles in the management of commercial processes.
* Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex commercial contracts and claims.
* Previous involvement in high-profile civils and structures projects.
