About the role
We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our NZT Civils & Structures team. The successful candidate will manage all costs and income for projects under their responsibility, focusing on minimizing costs while maintaining the required standards and quality. You will enhance value for money and ensure project goals are met efficiently and within budget.
As a Chartered Member of RICS, ICES, or CIOB, you will bring a wealth of experience in managing teams, mentoring junior commercial staff, and contributing to their professional development. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about continuous learning and professional growth, as you will also maintain your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
What you'll be doing
Governance:
* Adhere to the company’s governance requirements and maximize the use of LEAN/digital opportunities to improve efficiencies across projects.
Commercial Management and Administration:
* Organise and systematically check project data to ensure accuracy.
* Prepare and critically appraise Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules, and tender documents, and negotiate with third parties as necessary.
* Review and provide input on complex contract programmes, including Time-Location.
* Assist in the preparation of delay and disruption programmes to ensure projects remain on track.
* Monitor subcontractor activities, ensuring accurate measurement and appropriate responses.
* Prepare internal reports, track commercial progress, and perform financial reconciliations for senior project staff.
Customer/Change Management:
* Understand and manage customer contracts, undertaking effective customer and stakeholder management.
* Analyze rates and prices, and manage variations and compensation events as required.
* Prepare, submit, and negotiate claims on behalf of the project team when needed.
* Ensure all commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders are handled professionally within your area of responsibility.
Procurement:
* Perform constructability analyses using construction programmes to enhance project planning.
* Develop procurement programmes and contribute to strategy formulation to ensure project needs are met efficiently.
Development, Recruitment, and Retention:
* Play a key role in the recruitment, development, and retention of team members, including apprentice and trainee Quantity Surveyors.
* Supervise and mentor junior commercial staff, guiding them on their professional journey towards becoming qualified Quantity Surveyors.

Pre-existing Skills, Knowledge & Experience: Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* Qualifications:
o BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
o Chartered status (MRCIS, MCInstCES, or MCIOB) or actively working towards it.
o Valid CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person).
* Experience:
o Proven track record of successfully managing costs and income within the civil engineering and structures sector.
o Experience in leading and mentoring a team of Quantity Surveyors, particularly in a commercial and project environment.
o Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Desirable Skills:
* Knowledge of LEAN and digital methodologies to enhance project efficiency.
* Experience in managing both large and small-scale projects with a focus on financial governance and performance.
