We are looking for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) within the Emergency Department. You will be practising under supervision, with a focus upon the provision of patient-centered quality care. The ACP (adult) role encompasses the assessment, examination, diagnosis, treatment and referral / discharge of adult patients presenting with undifferentiated conditions.
As a trainee, the post holder will work under supervision within an agreed scope of practice and will be expected to ensure high standards of evidence-based care. The training will involve the completion of a formal Advanced Clinical Practitioner programme, at the centre of which is the competency framework detailed by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
* To deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients attending the ED.
* Provide a level of advanced and comprehensive clinical assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge under supervision.
* Direct responsibility for the management of patients within own case load and for the supervision of junior members of the multidisciplinary team.
* To appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations within the boundaries of the role as a trainee.
* To be able to administer medications via Patient Group Direction; or to practice within the scope of an independent non-medical prescriber.
* To contribute to the development and improvement of systems and processes that facilitate patient flow.
* Maintain own clinical development by keeping abreast of new treatments and technologies within emergency and unscheduled care.
* To improve the quality of the patient experience by identifying and meeting the individual clinical needs of patients.
* To rigorously review all aspects of the patients plan of care and identify and address issues that may result in a substandard service.
* Contribute to the review and development of integrated care pathways and clinical guidelines to ensure a standardised approach to emergency care.
* Under supervision practice with confidence and competence within professional Guidelines (NMC).
* To ensure that accurate documentation and records of patient care are kept.
* To assist in the development of assessment systems, processes and tools within the ED and adjacent clinical assessment areas.
* Ability to adapt specialist clinical knowledge and skills to different clinical settings and influence service delivery and patient care.
* Actively implement effective systems and processes for infection control management and relevant audit within their clinical area.
* Ability to verify death in accordance with PHUT policy verification of death in adults for non-medical registered practitioners.
Management and Leadership
* Choose an area of special interest within advanced clinical practice with the intention to develop and take forward in your ACP role.
* To develop own leadership skills within the ACP team.
* Contribute in the development of a specialist service and act as a change agent and facilitate the change process whilst encouraging others to be innovative and adaptable in the approach to change.
* To develop evidence-based policies and procedures specifically required by the team.
* To develop clinical competencies for junior staff working within the team.
* To develop and maintain effective communication with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care.
* To work collaboratively with representatives of other clinical areas, disciplines and services to provide a seamless pathway of care.
* Participate in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff.
* To be conversant with all Trust policies and procedures and ensure they are correctly implemented.
* To represent the Trust on National Emergency Care Forums related to Advanced Clinical Practice.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Current NMC or professional body registration.
* For the tACP (adult) role within the ED the candidate must have completed a recognized autonomous practitioner program of study in at least one field of emergency care (e.g. minors, majors or paramedic specialist practitioner), and have been working in the role of an autonomous practitioner for a minimum of two years at band 6. There should be demonstrable evidence of role consolidation.
* Evidence of ability to work at Masters level, and willingness to complete a Masters degree.
* Immediate Life Support Qualification as minimum (preferably ALS).
* 5 years acute care experience within area of specialism.
* Service improvement skills.
* Mentorship qualification.
Desirable
* ALS / APLS / ATLS or equivalent.
* Masters Degree / Masters level university modules.
* Non-Medical Independent Prescriber.
Additional criteria
