Contract type: 12 month fixed term contract
Job Overview
The City Council has secured DLUHC funding for an additional HBAO post to help us to develop further guidance for our walled City Centre Conservation Area; including developing a Character Appraisal Statement and Management proposals. This will build on our recently adopted City Centre Masterplan, recently adopted as SPD. This post will lead on delivering this important project for the heart of our historic city centre.
Qualifications and Skills
Are you a qualified built heritage professional with the sound experience we are looking for? Does the prospect of characterising Britain’s oldest recorded urban centre with an extraordinary wealth of heritage assets appeal? If so, we’d like you to join us and share the challenge of ensuring that we truly understand our heritage and can manage it effectively to reinforce its unique character and special qualities.
Given our corporate commitment to the City’s heritage set out in our Strategic Plan and City Centre Masterplan, you will sit firmly at the heart of our regeneration strategy. In your collection of skills you will be technically knowledgeable, have a firm grasp of architectural history, and possess good written skills. It is also desirable for you to have experience and the ability to build rapport and excellent working relationships with local heritage groups, statutory consultees, colleagues, stakeholders, and local communities.
Responsibilities
As a built heritage conservation officer in a rapidly evolving city centre with a diverse mix of uses and built heritage, we’ll expect you to have the ability to see the conservation opportunities that arise from our ambitious urban renaissance programme funded by Town Deal and Levelling Up Fund and from the development of the Council’s own extensive land/property portfolio.
Just as importantly, we are also looking for the successful candidate to have a positive attitude to work and energy to deliver all activities and interactions with the public in line with our corporate behaviours.
