The Office of Elaine Stewart MP is recruiting a Senior Policy Researcher
Key responsibilities
• Act as liaison officer between Westminster office and constituency office
• Develop and implement procedures for constituency office correspondence, such as enquiries from constituents, the media, and campaign groups
• Deal with complex queries and complaints on the MPs' behalf, including drafting and signing letters
• Manage and progress complex cases and take ownership of certain casework as required
• Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and resolve them
• Take initiative on other relevant delegated areas from the MP and lead on project work as re-quired
• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the Member is accurately informed on key issues
• Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant policy announcements and legislation, including im-pact on the local
constituency
• Research local, regional or national issues to support the MPs' work
• To produce and present high quality written reports, briefing notes, and professional advice
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed
• Undertake supervisory responsibility as required
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours, including assisting with events with the MP as requested
Additional responsibilities
• Develop a strategy for constituency communication (newsletters, website, social media posts)
• Support all other staff when required
The ideal candidate will have:
• excellent research analysis and writing skills and acute attention to detail
• working knowledge of standard office practices and computer packages
• good knowledge of the policy making process
• good communication and people skills and a working knowledge of social media and internet-based website programme such as Wordpress
• strong organisational research skills, good time management and able to produce high quality work under pressure
• be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party and be politically aware
• Previous experience of working in a similar work environment would be beneficial.
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside normal working hours, including attending events with the MP in Westminster and Ayr as required.
