National Energy System Operator (NESO) is on a journey towards a sustainable and secure energy future. Together we build on this momentum, advancing the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) plan for zero carbon operability of the electricity system.
We are seeking an adaptable and results-oriented Data Provenance Analyst to join our Data Provenance team. Our team is responsible for developing data provenance standards, engaging with business stakeholders to implement the standards, tracking data lineage and identifying authoritative data sources. The team is also responsible for educating staff on data provenance best practices and driving continuous improvement to foster data transparency and trust in data-driven decisions.
As a Data Provenance Analyst, your main responsibility will be to support the Data Provenance Manager to drive data provenance work in NESO. You will assist in data lineage development activities, lead on authoritative data source identification, and monitor data provenance metrics across the data landscape. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, executing data provenance standards across the organisation. You will also contribute to data governance initiatives and provide support to end-users on data provenance best practices and guidance.
You will have ample opportunities to develop essential skills in data provenance, as well as exposure to wider industry-standard tools and technologies on data lineage and data governance.
This role can be based at Wokingham or Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
* Perform data provenance activities as per defined data provenance standards
* Execute and enforce data provenance standards to ensure transparency of data traceability and lineage across the organisation
* Drive the authoritative data source (ADS) work to enhance overall data reliability within the organization
* Assist in the master & reference data strategies to provide value to the business
* Ensure compliance with Ofgem Data Best Practices and industry standards
* Support the development of training & data literacy programs to educate staff on data provenance
* Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for data provenance, producing regular reports for stakeholders and senior management
About You
We are looking for a new team member to support us drive data provenance work forward.
We’re looking for someone who has:
* Demonstrated experience in data provenance – data sourcing, data mapping or transformation, data lineage, and data flows management
* Experience of Master or Reference Data Management
* A good understanding and knowledge of data governance and data management
* Evidence of strong stakeholder management experience
* Exceptional communication skills – ability to articulate data provenance concepts and requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Ability to organise work based on business value and priority to effectively plan, execute and report to management on the progress, risk, and mitigation actions
* Evidence of working in Agile environment
* The capacity for self-motivation, independent initiative and creative problem-solving
Preferred Qualifications:
* BS/BA Computer Science/Information Management degree or equivalent work experience

A competitive salary of £46,000 to £63,000 – dependent on experience and capability.
