The Home
Longfield Care Home is situated in the outskirts of the Village of Eglinton and ten miles from the city of Derry. Longfield Care Home facilitates 35 General Nursing residents in the Foyle Unit & Faughan Unit, and 11 Residential Dementia residents in the Moore Suite Unit. Longfield Care Home received two awards at the 2024 Staff Nursing Awards.
The Role
This role is for maternity cover only. The Senior Care Assistant role in our Homes is part of a dedicated team who are essential to the daily operations of the Home. In our Residential Homes and units, this is a leadership role, working closely with the care team to lead on shifts and manage medication.
Senior Care Assistants provide high quality care and support to our residents in a warm and safe environment. Senior Care Assistants play a crucial role in the delivery of care, working with the care team, providing leadership, guidance, and hands-on assistance to ensure the residents receive personalised care that meets their individual needs and preferences.
Our Senior Care Assistants also provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering meaningful relationships and promoting a sense of compassion; an advocacy for the rights and preferences of our residents.
Responsibilities
1. Provide direct care and support to residents with activities of daily living, including personal care and mobility in accordance with individual care plans and resident preferences.
2. Observe and monitor the wellbeing of residents ensuring that any unusual physical, mental, or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.
3. Monitor and allocate the work for care assistants.
4. Develop and maintain a good professional relationship with residents, colleagues, and visitors responding promptly and courteously to requests and enquiries.
5. Responsible for the administration and management of medication, medication audits, and storage in line with regulatory requirements.
6. Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager.

Required criteria
* Medications experience within a care setting
* The Right to Work in the UK
* Educated to a minimum GCSE/NVQ 3 or above (or similar qualification) with a good standard of English
* Previous Care Experience
